According to an interview given by the actress Lashana Lynch to the channel Harper’s Bazaar (via Pink News), she will play the next 007 in theaters, and besides the character creature a black woman, she will also be a lesbian.

In the movie “No Time To Die“, her character, Nomi, will renew James Bond, played by Daniel Craig, who retired after the last film. During the talk, she said that the producers’ decision to cast her in this role is challenging, but that she is very happy with it.

“I feel very grateful that I get to challenge those narratives. We’re moving away from toxic masculinity, and that’s happening because women are existence open, demanding and vocal, and calling out misbehaviour as soon as we see it”, she said.

The film synopsis indicates that James Bond has left the MI6 and moved to Jamaica. Felix Leiter, CIA agent and Bond’s friend, asks for his help in searching for a missing scientist. At some point of the story, we know that Nomi (played by Lashana Lynch) will replace him.

Ben Whishaw admitted in an interview with The Guardian that he was left unsatisfied by the truth in “No Period to Die” that his recurring James Bond character Q is a lgbtq+ man. The show is brief and occurs when Bond (Daniel Craig) and Moneypenny (Naomi Harris) drop by Q’s apartment unannounced for help. Q is in the middle of cooking dinner and preparing for a date with a male love-related partner when the two show up at his door. Q’s sexuality is not referenced again in the film.

“I think I reflection, ‘Are we doing this, and then doing nothing with it?’ I recall, perhaps, feeling that was unsatisfying,” Whishaw said about showing Q is homosexual but keeping his sexuality relatively unexplored. “For whatever reason, I didn’t choose it apart with anybody on the film. Maybe on another kind of project I would have done? But it’s a very big machine. I thought a lot about whether I should question it. Finally, I didn’t. I accepted this was what was written. And I said the lines. And it is what it is.”

Daniel Craig’s new film sees him take the role of gay William Lee in Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, based on a semi-autobiographical novella by William S. Burroughs, but the former James Bond star has shared he would never have considered taking the role during his period at the helm of the 007 franchise.

He told The Times of London:

“I couldn’t have done this while doing Bond. It would look reactionary, like I was exhibiting my range,” and he said he wasn’t interested in the prospect of taking fans of Bond through to a different depiction of masculinity:  

“It’s just not a conversation I wanted. I had it all the way through Bond anyway. Could there be this Bond? That Bond? So anything that is going to inflame that conversation? No — life’s too short.”

Craig says it used to get him half a year to recover from each time he played James Bond.
