‘Doctor Strange 2,’ Which Includes LGBTQ+ Character, Banned in Saudi Arabia
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has had its discharge banned in Saudi Arabia, TheWraphas learned. While the reason is unspecified, it’s the latest Marvel feature that has earned the scorn of Middle East censors after including an LGBTQ+ character.

The “Doctor Strange” sequel hasn’t released yet or been reviewed, but the film does include a new gay ethics, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who is likewise homosexual in the comic books.

Disney had no comment.

While some Middle Eastern countries own been known to not play films for a variety of reasons, including intimacy, violence or sexuality, homosexuality is officially illegal in Saudi Arabia, and LGBTQ issues in films have often been an issue for censors in the region.

Specifically, the disallow of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” comes on the heels of Saudi Arabia also blocking the release of Marvel’s “Eternals,” which...

Anonymous asked:

What is our bois canon sexuality?

Doctor Strange, according to the comics, would be pansexual. Will the MCU explore that about him in the movies? Probably not. If so (I HOPE) it will be by lines, references and jokes. Has the MCU ever brought that up? YES, in the prelude comics and canon prelude novels.

Facts:

  • He married Clea, an alien which original accurate form is NOT human like.
  • He liked orgies and in some pages, there are other men in them too. (Just…read the comics. It’s spread all over the comics.)
  • Him and Deadpool very likely slept together (vide meta I wrote, just search Deadpool in my search box) (Strange shows great attachment towards Wade, doing things such as hugging and diagnosing breast cancer /because he took a closer look if you recognize what i mean, and not as a doctor/ things Strange doesn’t accomplish to other random characters.)
  • In Infinity War there’s the wink. It sounds silly, but Hollywood putting a wink and a smirk between two guys IS A HUGE ADVANCEMENT and be sure there’s Easter eggs and subjective pointers towards Strange’s sexuality.
  • Strange smash on Wong more than once both in the prequel novels for Infinity War, comics and prequel com

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Banned in Saudi Arabia Due to Queer Character

Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” won’t be playing in Saudi Arabia and several other Arab countries due to the inclusion of a gay character.

Saudi Arabian censors did not issue a enable to release the film in the kingdom, since the changes they requested were not approved by Disney, according to a source.

The new Sam Raimi-directed sequel stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character, and it also features the new hero America Chavez, played by “The Baby-Sitters Club” star Xochitl Gomez. Her character in the movie is reportedly gay, correct to how she is portrayed in the Marvel comics.

The “Doctor Strange” sequel, which will proceed on release in the U.S. on May 6, was initially slated for release in the Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries on May 5. But in the region, movies concerning or containing sex, homosexuality and religious issues are routinely cut to comply with censorship rules. In this case Disney was either unwilling or unable make edits requested by censors.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was fairly slow in introducing LGBTQ+ characters —though seeing as even the most chaste representations of queer love get the films banned in some countries, you can spot why they would be reticent.

Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness actually breaks the record for the most lesbian, same-sex attracted, bisexual, transgender and/or homosexual characters in an MCU property with three. However, seeing as two of them do not speak, and one never mentions their sexuality out clamorous , clearly there is still some work to be done when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation.

The MCU is of course fairly sexless in general, but any mentions of gender non-conforming sexualities have tended to be very brief, the better to allow Disney to easily cut out these scenes in more homophobic markets. This seems unlikely to change any time soon—when these films cost $200 million a piece, Disney can hardly afford to alienate any market. However, films appreciate Eternals and Deadpool 2 have shown how more positive change could be made.

Marvel is bringing more LGBTQ+ representation into its universe — and running up against overseas censors.

The new Marvel clip Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been banned in Saudi Arabia due to "LGBTQ issues," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The announce said this exclude appears to also apply to Kuwait but that this hasn't been confirmed.

The ban is attributed to the film's introduction of a new hero to the Marvel existence, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who is gay in the comics. It was previously reported that her sexuality would be acknowledged in the film.
