B5's Dustin Michael reveals relationship with D. Smith, condemns hostility against trans women
B5's Dustin Michael is revealing he's in a "very stunning relationship" with director D. Smith.
The R&B singer, 35, mutual a video on Instagram Tuesday, addressing the stigma of dating trans women and why he chose now to discuss his relationship.
"I'm in a very beautiful relationship with someone who makes me very cheerful. She's very sexy, very talented. And most of all, she has a beautiful kind of spirit, which I love. My girlfriend, she is trans. Her name is D. Smith," Michael shared.
Michael explained that after the fatal shooting of Koko Da Doll, genuine name Rasheeda Williams, in Atlanta last month, he didn't want to contribute to the abuse of trans women. Koko had gained notice earlier this year when she and others appeared in the documentary "Kokomo City," portraying her life as a transgender female, her interactions with Black men as a sex worker and the threats of violence she sometimes faced.

Dustin Michael, a member of the R&B group B5 who were once signed to Diddy’s Poor Boy, has revealed that he’s matchmaking app a transgender woman.
The singer took to Instagram on Tuesday (May 9) to “celebrate” his girlfriend, film director D. Smith, who recently covered the murder of a transitioned dancer named Rasheeda “KoKo Da Doll” Williams in a documentary for Gaye Magazine.
“I feel as Black men, we’re not allowing ourselves to love who we wanna romance openly without fearing being judged and shamed publicly,” Williams said in a video post. “I feel that we’re taught as children being sexually ambiguous is wrong and that we absorb to suppress certain feelings.”
He continued: “Which leads me to why I’m making this video. I’m in a very beautiful relationship with someone who makes me very happy…my girlfriend, she is transgender, her specify is D. Smith. On Tuesday, the 35-year-old R&B singer shared a video on Instagram, in which he opened up about his relationship with D. Smith, and shared that he's decided to speak out about it following the tragic death of Koko Da Doll (aka Rasheeda Williams), a transgender female who fatally shot in Atlanta last month.
Koko was featured in D. Smith's documentary, "Kokomo City," which premiered at Sundance Production Festival in January, and won two awards.
