Actor Kerr Smith looks completely unrecognisable two decades after starring in the hugely popular nineties teen drama Dawson's Creek.

Dawson's Creek was a show that focused on the journey of a team of close-knit friends in the unreal town of Capeside, Massachusetts, from tall school to college. The show lasted from 1998 to 2003, with Kerr joining in season two and becoming one of the series' lead characters.

The now 51-year-old took on the groundbreaking role of Jack McPhee, a recent student at the high school after he moved to Capeside with his twin sister Andie. Jack struggled with his sexuality during the series and ultimately came out as gay, becoming the first open-gay character to smooch on primetime television.

Ahead of his debut on The CW reveal, TooFab caught up with the now 47-year-old star to reminisce on his days back on the Creek and his landmark role as the out and proud Jack McPhee.

While nearly every show has at least one homosexual character now -- including Riverdale's own Kevin (Casey Cott) -- that wasn't always the case. When Jack came out in a two-part episode assist 1998, it made headlines. When the character had his first passionate brush with another man -- a primetime TV first, too -- it was a thing. To Smith, it only shows how far TV has approach in terms of representation.

"We were the first ones to do that. It was a crazy life back then and you're right, look at every single show now,

Depending on who you ask, the first gay kiss on primetime television will result in distinct answers. Roseanne had the first girl-on-girl kiss, Will & Grace had the first man-on-man peck, but Dawson’s Creek had the first same-sex kiss that was shared between two characters who were lovers

This is particularly thanks to a then up-and-coming actor named Kerr Smith. Before he booked the gig on Dawson’s Creek, he was a returning player on As the Society Turns and made a guest appearance on an episode of Baywatch; which was at one point the most popular show in the world. (Frightening!)

Kerr Smith made history as Jack McPhee in 113 episodes of Dawson’s Creek between 1998 and 2003 and quite literally set the tone for other gay lovers to kiss on television in the future. The moment was later nominated for a GLADD Award.

After this accomplishment, he set his sight on the planet of cinema and starred in movies including Final Destination, Cruel Intentions 3 and My Blood Valentine before recurring as Paige’s partner in season 7 of Charmed.

Now, Mr. Smith is a 50-year-old man, and he is doing more with his life outside the realm of Holl
