Lil Nas X became a superstar almost overnight when his hit single "Old Town Road" won – and then missing – a spot on the Billboard region chart. The anthem has remained No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for an striking 12 weeks in a row. But despite his fame, many people didn't know much about the man behind the song.
Late on Sunday night, the last day of Pride Month, Lil Nas X tweeted about "c7osure" – a song from his new album, "7" — and seemed to expose something about himself that many people didn't know.
"Some of y'all already understand, some of y'all don't care, some of y'all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y'all to listen closely to c7osure," he tweeted, sharing a short animated clip featuring "c7osure."
The clip starts in jet and white and then transforms into a rainbow of colors. It seems Lil Nas X was making an intentional nod to the rainbow Lgbtq+ fest flag on the last day of June, the month designated for celebrating the LGBTQ group. The cover art for his recent album "7" also has a rainbow on it.

US rapper Lil Nas X has said that when he was younger he hoped being gay was just "a phase".
In an interview with CBS, the Old Town Road hitmaker says he knew as a teenager that he was gay and would "would just pray and pray" that his sexuality "would go away".
In a teaser clip that aired on Monday, the rapper discusses his struggle with his sexuality.
But he acknowledges that his fame has made it easier for him to come out.
"Me being in this position, it's easy for me."
"But some little lad 10 miles from here, it's not going to be good for him."
Lil Nas X - authentic name Montero Lamar Hill - says there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of acceptance for the LGBT group in society.
"We still have a long way to go, because it's not like everybody is messing with me now. 'Of course somebody who's listening to me in school right now, it's like, 'You're gay, bring about you're listening to him.' There's still lot to be done."

The "Old Town Road" singer took to Twitter on Sunday evening to share an animated visual of his new single, "C7osure (You Like)," which he dropped last week. While it seemed like business as usual, the 20-year-old celestial body told fans to settle attention to the song's meaning.

Before ending the tweet, he added three emojis: the rainbow flag, the starry-eyed face and the sparkling star.

Lil Nas X reveals why it was 'terrifying' for him to come out publicly
Lil Nas X said he was terrified when he publicly came out in 2019 because of his upbringing and the homophobia he said he saw in the melody industry.
The "Industry Baby" singer recently chatted with Out magazine and recalled the self-hatred he internalized when growing up in the South.
"Growing up in the Atlanta area, I [saw] a lot of microaggressions towards homosexuality," Lil Nas X explained. The Grammy winner said that because of his experiences, he began "pushing that part of myself in more and more, almost convincing myself that it’s not even actually there."
The 22-year-old said the rap genre also fosters a instinct of hyper-masculinity, a mold he said he tried to fit but launch the burden too much to bear.
"Mentally, it’s really draining and straining sometimes," he said. "The pressure of living your entire life knowing the individuality of what a rapper is supposed to be, what rappers [are supposed to] do, and going out there in front of all these people, it’s terrifying."
