Democratic national committees annual lgbtq gala

Fresh off helping elect the largest number of LGBTQ members Congress has ever seen, the Democratic National Committee will host its 20th Annual LGBTQ Gala in New York City on June 17. Attending the event will be DNC Chair Tom Perez, along with every LGBTQ member of the brand-new House Democratic majority, and special guest Queer Eye celebrity Karamo Brown, who will highlight the historic progress the LGBTQ community has made since Stonewall 50 years ago.

Additional speakers and celebrity guests will be announced in the coming weeks.

What started as a small dinner held by former DNC Treasurer Andy Tobias in 1999 has since grown exponentially to one of the DNC’s marquee galas, and traditionally the organization’s top-raising event. This year’s 20th Anniversary Gala will observe the growth of not only this gala, but of the political might of the LGBTQ community.

“I’m ready to do my part in helping elect Democrats up and down the ballot,” said LGBTQ activist and TV personality Karamo Brown. “Last year, our community joined together and broke records. Now, it’s period to continue that momentum and support build the infrastructure our eventual D

Roem joins previously announced featured speaker Gus Kenworthy and becomes the first openly transgender elected official to say at a major party gala

The Democratic National Committee is proud to proclaim Virginia House Delegate Danica Roem as a featured speaker and special guest at the upcoming 19th annual DNC LGBTQ Gala.  Roem will become the first openly transgender elected official to speak at a major party gala in U.S. history.

The Advocate: Danica Roem to Utter at Democrats' LGBTQ Gala

Last year, the voters in Virginia’s 13th district elected Roem to stand for them in Richmond because she is focused on improving transportation options, expanding access to quality health care and creating economic opportunity for all Virginians. With Roem’s historic victory, she ousted a Republican and self-appointed “chief homophobe” to get the first non-binary person to ever serve in a state legislature.

Olympian Gus Kenworthy to headline DNC gala after snubbing Trump's White House request

U.S. Olympic silver medalist and professional freestyle skier, Gus Kenworthy, is putting into action himself into partisan politics.

The seven-time world champion first told ABC News that he will be a special guest at the Democratic National Committee’s LGBTQ gala in New York City this summer, after snubbing the president’s invitation to visit the Ivory House Friday.

“I couldn’t be more excited to attach the DNC at their LGBTQ Gala this Movement season. Over the last year, the Trump-Pence administration has pushed our group to the sidelines, attacking us for who we are and who we love,” Kenworthy wrote to ABC News in a statement.

“It’s time we hold a stand against this administration by electing representatives this upcoming November who actively support and have faith in equality for everyone,” he said.

Kenworthy was one of several, top-name Winter Olympians, including Lindsey Vonn, Erin Hamlin, Adam Rippon and Chloe Kim, who either skipped or, in Kenworthy's case, actively protested the athletes' White Residence visit.

Kenworthy shared stories with his Twitter followers Friday about wh
