25 Essential LGBTQ Self-acceptance Songs

Good advice from Canada’s raunchiest sex sage. With the help of a Roland MC-505, the bisexual drama teacher–turned-rapper sparked a titillating new wave of sleazebag disco with her 2000 LP, Teaches of Peaches. Although “Fuck the Pain Away” was too risqué to chart, its lasting, braggadocious lines permeated everything from South Park to 30 Rock and 2003 film Lost In Translation: “Suckin’ on my titties enjoy you wanted me/Calling me all the time like Blondie/Check out my Chrissy behind/It’s fine all of the time.” It was reportedly Madonna’s favorite exercise song, and she also featured it in her London play, Up For Grabs. In a 2003 interview with The Guardian, Peaches divulges that she sent Madonna and Guy Ritchie some autographed panties as thanks. “I signed some underwear,” she says, “I wrote, ‘Dear Guy, fuck ya later, care for Peaches,’ and for Madonna I wrote, ‘Dear Madonna, fuck ya now, value Peaches.’ It’s cool.” –SE

chronological list of LGBT-themed films, 1916-1989, with notes

Since quite a few people seem to use this list for reference, I'm revamping and upgrading it into two halves. It's got a long way to leave so bear with me. I'm only listing films with a recognizable LGBT angle, not exploitative ones or those where it's a matter of perception (for instance, Hitchcock's "Rope" can only be interpreted as gay-themed if one knows the real-life case by which it was inspired - and in "Spartacus", you got to catch on to what oysters are supposed to mean). I'm gradually including more titles so touch free to come assist every once in a while.

I couldn't add the following titles even though they're on IMDb: "Nights in black Leather" (1973) is narcissist Peter Berlin's most famous blue show and very telling as to how ancient certain fetishes are. "Köçek" (1975) is a transgender desire story in Istanbul (!) with a big Turkish star of the hour, Müjde Ar. The instruction is by year of original release, so if something seems to be missing, it may be at a different spo

A few years after the publication of my first book, which was about my six years in a form of conversion therapy, another author invited me onto his podcast of “Queer Writers.” His show’s name should hold warned me of what was to follow, but in the rush of scheduling, I entered the interview cold. At the top of the exhibition the author introduced me as a “queer writer.” I clarified that I do not identify as “queer”; I am queer . None of that seemed to matter.

He asked at what age I first discovered that I was queer; what it was like growing up queer; about my favourite lgbtq+ authors; for any counsel that I could give with other struggling homosexual writers. I stumbled through my answers, each of which felt more disingenuous than the last. Whether he was aware of it or not, the author’s questions around my supposed queer identity had nothing to do with me or my unusual journey; they were his projection of who or what he thought I was.

I am not gender non-conforming. I am a lgbtq+ man. And I act not buy the notion that “gay” must automatically be grouped into or conflated with the label of “queer.” The former is n

When interviewed by NME magazine about his sexual orientation, he playfully responded: “I’m as same-sex attracted as a daffodil, my dear!” And even if he did not openly talk about his private life, it is well acknowledged that he spent the last of his years living with his longtime partner Jim Hutton.

Queen’s guitarist, Brian May, also stated in a 2008 interview: “I know that all through his life Fred didn’t think that whether he was homosexual or not was important.”

Ryan Butcher, editor of LGBT website PinkNews, also stated: “It wasn’t just about sexuality with him; it was about his whole identity and the flamboyant persona he projected on stage, which is one of the main things Queen is known for.”

Why he inspires us: Freddie was not only a global rock music icon for the world and an inspiration for the LGBTQI+ society, he was also known for creature a huge meower lover, so much that he actually dedicated an entire album in the name of his cats.

Mr. Bad G

I was a young lgbtq+ man in the 80s who got by on survival sex

The Seattle Times dropped a bombshell on the local political scene last week, publishing a lengthy account of interviews with three separate men who claim that Mayor Ed Murray paid them for sex while they were underage gay drug abusers in the 1980s.

The men – two of whom met Murray starting in 1980 when he lived in Portland, and the third, a male who filed a civil suit alleging Murray did the same to him beginning in 1986, after Murray had moved to Seattle – gave similar stories.

This is truly gnarly stuff. Money for sex, which was then used to feed drug habits. These sort of allegations, when credible, can abruptly end political careers. No doubt would-be mayoral candidates, scared off this year by Murray’s formidable war chest, are looking anew at their contact lists.

There’s a lot I don’t like about Murray’s document as mayor, starting especially with how he exploits our most vulnerable residents for political points while doing far less than you’d think to assist them. But this is much bigger than that. The civil suit doesn’t even need to leave anywhere for Murray’s career to be over. The court of public perspective can
