I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since Gay Disney 2016. Every year it’s a weekend filled with entertainment, mayhem and fond memories. If you haven’t been, I recommend you life it, and if you have been go back! After all, it’s in our sister city of Orlando, just a scant hours’ drive away. Here are the DJs and singers and entertainers you’ll get to see during Gay Disney Week, which runs this year from May 30 – June 5.

OFFICIAL GAY DAYS POOL PARTIES AT THE DOUBLETREE

GayDays Orlando is well-known for the daily pool parties which are held at the Official GayDays host hotel, the Doubletree by Hilton Orlando at SeaWorld. There are two pool parties, the “Midway Pool Party”, held at the main lagoon pool, and the “Arena Pool Party”, held near the bear wing of the hotel.

GayDays is proud to host over 30 DJ’s from all over with 5 Days and 5 Nights of pool parties. The pool parties at “The Midway Pool” start on Wednesday, May 31 at 12Noon with DJ Tex Flex, switching over at 5p.m. to DJ Frank-O and closing out the evening at 10p.m. with DJ Chris Adams. The next day is titled as “Freakshow,” Thursday, June 1, with DJ Aracely Manterola 10a.m. – 4p.m., DJ Luke H

There have been years and years of Gay Days threads not being allowed on here because they apparently always got so hideous. I understand that people have powerful feelings on this issue, but on the other hand, things have progressed and I desire minds have been opened.

With that in mind, I have been in touch with @The Momand I own been approvedto announce the first official Gay Days thread. Whoo-hooo!

So, here's the deal. This is meant to be a very respectful thread, meant specifically for trip planning -@The Mom will be watching it, and any posts debating the "appropriateness" of the event will be deleted. This is meant to be a thread for sharing information about the event with others who are interested in attending it, not a place to breeze opinions about the LBGT community.

How it began

Gay Days Disney started as an informal event in 1991, when 3,000 gays and lesbians from primary Florida decided to assemble in Disney World on one day, wearing red shirts to make their presence more visible. By 1995, the event had grown to 10,000 participants and as of 2010 approximately 150,000 LGBTs, their families, friends and supporters attended the six-day gathering (including various pool parties, conventions, festivals, a business expo, activities for kids, etc.) with 20,000 to 30,000 going to Disney on the final evening. Now, the event annually pumps an estimated USD 100 million into the Orlando economy.

The popularity of the event is seen by some attendees as a way of "reclaiming" normal joys of childhood lost to homophobia in their earlier years. Expansion in attendance also reflects the growing number of LGBT families with children.
